The History of Jen's Academy of Rhythm & Moves

I have had a passion for children and teaching ever since I was a little girl. I was fortunate to have great teachers who inspired me to follow in their footsteps and change the world one child at a time.

I started to teach baton lessons for $4.00 an hour when I was fifteen years old in 1993. I would meet my elementary school students after school and teach them at the park. Slowly more parents started to approach me about teaching their daughter how to twirl and dance. So, I convinced my dad to give up his two stall garage at my parent’s house for my “first studio.”

I continued to teach lessons there until I graduated from college in the spring of 2001. We used to have backyard recitals yearly with borrowed church chairs and homemade costumes. Then in the fall of 2001, I made the bold decision to turn down an elementary teaching position in Pittsburgh and follow my dream of owning my own Studio.

I found a wonderfully huge, brand new gymnasium to rent from the Nazarene church. Jen’s Academy opened its doors September 12, 2001, for classes (a day late due to the never forgotten 9-11.) With a lot of hard work and support from my loving parents, family and friends I managed to make it through my first year.

Over the years my business continued to grow, and in the Spring of 2016, Jen’s Academy took another big step. The studio was moved to a storefront in the Clearview Mall in Butler! The new location has allowed us to increase the number and variety of classes offered.

Now, I can’t believe that I am in my 19th year of owning Jen’s Academy of Rhythm & Moves. I feel so blessed to be able to call this my job because the students that I teach truly have become like my children. The staff, students, studio parents, and I truly make up Jen’s Academy family!

I pray that God continues to bless me with the gift of teaching and the ability to operate my studio for countless years to come!!!
